We left Shanghai where our adoption was completed for Guangzhou where we do our immigration paperwork. There are two main hotels used by nearly all American adoptive families, the White Swan and the Victory. They are both on Shamian Island in Guangzhou's Pearl River. The island was occupied by the British and the French after the Opium Wars, so it's all European architecture. I can't tell you the vast difference between bumper to bumper Shanghai and peaceful Shamian Island. I feel like I'm back on Planet Earth.
I have to tell you about the hotels, but I'm too tired tonight. It's a good story, though.
